The Mercury Theatre’s latest home-grown show, Wind in the Willows, is perhaps their most inventive production yet thanks to a highly imaginative set concentrated around scaffolding, simple hanging lights and innovative piles of old rubbish, used as props by the multi-talented cast, who also double up as the show’s orchestra.

Big Interview – Nicholas Afoa

THE LION KING

The Lion King’s Nicholas Afoa had a promising rugby career with the All Blacks until he was injured. After recovering, he decided to change direction and pursue a career in theatre. Nearly a decade later, the 29-year-old beat 400 other hopefuls to the role of Simba in the Australian production of The Lion King, and last month joined the London cast of The Lion King to make his West End debut at the Lyceum Theatre. David Ian, producer of the international award-winning musical Chicago, is delighted to announce that one of Britain’s best-loved soap stars, Jessie Wallace, will play the role of Mama Morton in Chicago when the show plays at Nottingham Royal Concert Hall (15th to 20th August), Belfast Grand Opera House (5th to 10th September), Liverpool Empire (12th to 17th September), Glasgow King’s Theatre (19th to 24th September), Aberdeen His Majesty’s Theatre (26th September to 1st October), Bromley Churchill Theatre (10th to 15th October), Woking New Victoria Theatre (17th to 22nd October), Canterbury Marlowe Theatre (24th to 29th October), Norwich Theatre Royal (31st October to 5th November) and Leeds Grand Theatre (22nd to 26th November).
