Following its opening night on Broadway last Sunday (6th December), it has been announced that Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical adaptation of School of Rock will open at the London Palladium in autumn 2016.
Dates for the West End run will be confirmed in the New Year along with details of when the production will go on sale.
Andrew Lloyd Webber said: ‘I am thrilled to announce that we are confirming a West End production of School of Rock – The Musical. We have had such a great time in the US staging the world premiere and now that we have opened on Broadway, I am delighted to be focussing on the next chapter in the show’s journey.’
Directed by Laurence Connor, School of Rock began previews at Broadway’s Winter Garden Theatre last month. The Broadway cast is led by Alex Brightman (Wicked/Big Fish) and Sierra Boggess (Love Never Dies/It Shoulda Been You) as Dewey Finn and headmistress Rosalie.
School of Rock has a book by Downton Abbey’s Julian Fellowes. The musical features music from the hit film, as well as new music written by Lloyd Webber and lyricist Glenn Slater. Choreography is by JoAnn M. Hunter, with scenic and costume design by Anna Louizos, lighting design by Natasha Katz and sound design by Mick Potter.
